In the Beginning...
The Supertribe was officially founded on June 5th 2000. It was on that date that the name and original logo concept were formed. The history of the Supertribe goes back even before that. In 1998, =ST=Superjudge and =ST=Supertzar began by simply playing Worms Armegeddon 1 on 1 during their lunch hour. A couple weeks or so after this began, they decided to start honing their skills by playing Quake. The ball was rolling. A couple more people jumped in with them and started playing Quake as well.
Not long after that, the demo for Half-Life was discovered. They were all instantly hooked. It is here that a founding member, =ST=Superbasturd, made his debut. Half-Life Deathmatch occupied their time for well over a year. Wanting to find a new game to play, Superjudge went out and picked up Starsiege. It was bundled with Starsiege:Tribes which was basically ignored at first. When Starsiege didn't take off as planned, Superjudge loaded up Tribes. It was an instant hit. The group that would go on to form the Supertribe went from 3-5 players to over 10 players in a matter of a week.
At this point the members really started to think about what call sign they would use. As a joke they started to convince everyone to add the word "Super" to the name they were using. A Capture the Flag team began to form and it needed a name. The name "Superfriends" floated around for a few days but didn't really stick because they didn't want encroach on that icon of their youth. =ST=Supertzar is credited with coming up with the name Supertribe. =ST=Superjudge created a logo to go with it. It was shortly after this that the Supertribe adopted the clan tag =ST=.
Darkness Falls...
The Supertribe went strong for several months until the company they were all working for changed ISP's and the ability to play games online was shut down. After that, those lacking a reliable computer and internet connection at home began to fall away.
The tribe had fallen back to 3 or 4 member who endevoured to keep it alive. They played online together but never really recruited full time for new members for one reason or another.
Back from the Dead...
In early 2002, the ability to play online at work was once again reopened and the members of the Supertribe decided to try to make a legitimate effort at creating something real. The game this time was Red Faction. The tribe picked up several new members at this time. Most notably =ST=Supernaut and =ST=SuperDusK. Both had been members of other clans who played against the tribe on Red Faction ladders but both found a better home here.
The Golden Age...
In October 2002, Epic released Unreal Tournament 2003 and the Supertribe decided to make the jump into that arena. In December of 2002, the Supertribe Slagfest UT2003 server was born. The original skull logo was revamped and renamed "Slag" in honor of this server and remains that way to this day. The Slagfest started out basically like every other server out there until the introduction of the Judge's Warhammer. The WarHammer was a high speed rocket rifle that could cut down an opponent with a couple direct hits. That coupled with Low Gravity and a high server speed made for many an exciting game and greatly increased the rolls of the Supertribe. A later addition to the server was the Flashfire Cannon that featured an Instagib style main mode and a concussion blast secondary. These two weapons remained the mainstay of the original UT2003 server and were ported over for the UT2004 Slagfest that followed. During this time the tribe entered a period of ladder competition and tournaments. Their skills grew and their reputation in the UT community was cemented.
At the same time, the tribe embarked on an experiment. Previously, all of the members had to be 17 or older with no exceptions. However, at the time some members had teen and preteen children and wanted to provide a safe place for them to play online. The Tribal Scions program was created. Not full members of the =SuperTribe=, but part of the family just the same.
Decline and Fall...
By late 2004, the combined =SuperTribe= and =TribalScions= reached 40+ members. About this time it became apparent to the leadership that a certain member of the =SuperTribe= was giving quite a bit of undue attention to the members of the =TribalScions=. This started a firestorm of controversy. That was not helped by the fact that several of the more immature members of the Scions started to make trouble themselves.
Shortly after those problems were sorted out with the removal of the offending members, a lack of foresight in the rank structure and tribe promotion schedule created another drama. The original vision of the tribe was that anyone could make their way up through the ranks into leadership positions. Unfortunately, these were dependant on points alone and not on personal knowledge or recommendations. Additionally, weariness with almost 3 years of straight UT2003/4 gameplay was taking it's toll. As the tribe began to explore other games such as Half-Life2 deathmatch and Counter-Strike Source, and Battlefield 2 somewhat of a takeover began within the tribe.
Due to lack of attention from some of the leadership it was allowed to continue for far too long. By the time that was sorted out the tribe had been decimated. One splinter faction even split off to create a separate clan with the specific goal of mocking the tribe. By far one of the hardest blows was the loss of Superbasturd who sided with one of these splinter factions and left the tribe.
By early 2006, the turmoil which had plagued the tribe so long was for the most part over and the members who remained simply sought peace of mind. Though we had gone through many struggles and learned many hard lessons, this period was not a total loss. We gained true friends in =ST=Ricinator,=ST=Rubiks, and =ST=PhantomIII. Ric became a valued member midway through our UT2003 stint and PhantomIII came to us during our short-lived Half-Life2 run. A special recognition is given to =ST=Rubiks as he is the only surviving member of the original Tribal Scions.
A period of calm...
Early to Mid 2006, the =SuperTribe= replaced the demon skull Slag 2.0 with the Lion Head Slag 3.0 as it's logo. This era was marked with the remaining members of the tribe concentrating on just playing games. Many games in fact but by far the most notable game played was Guild Wars. Many many hours of fun where had by the few that remained. At one point during an in game guild merger with members of the Game Shark community, the tribe actually picked up 3 new close friends and members; =ST=SuperHelix, =ST=Achilles, and =ST=R0adki114.
By mid 2009 a stirring began and our faithful mascot "Slag 3.0" got a new facelift. The lion's mane was replaced with the demon skull horns of old and "Slag 4.0" was born. It seems as if this is the dawning of a new era.
Looking to the Future...
A decade has passed now. We've learned that to survive you've got to have a small close circle of friends that you hold onto with all you've got. We've also learned that to grow you've got to open yourself up to new opportunities. We are not sure of what our future holds, but we know who holds the key to our future.
